Continuous construction with energy efficient internal thermal insulation - THERMOLUT

The restoration, renovation and modernisation of historic and old buildings, named SANREMO for short, is a central component of all construction activities today and seen as a technically and economically interesting and challenging field of activity by all participants.

With the THERMOLUT-System SCHOMBURG GmbH has developed a solution based on natural raw materials for the retrospective insulation from the inside of exterior walls and the restoration of facades worthy of conservation. The natural wood fibre insulation panel THERMOLUT-DP180 is used in combination with the most natural of all building materials – clay – as a synergistic solution with natural renewable and completely recyclable raw materials.

The demonstrable advantages of the building material clay, in particular the famous “feel good climate” achieved through a constant relative humidity of approx. 54% as well as anti-allergenic and aroma trapping properties are here combined with the possibility of the achievement of the energy saving potential of thought out, planned and completed insulation also in the case of retrospective internal insulation.

With THERMOLUT SCHOMBURG focuses on a vapour permeable system whose functionality has proved itself in critical areas of internal insulation, at abutments, ceilings or in bathrooms and kitchens. With this system vapour barriers in combination with internal insulation on exterior walls can be completely omitted. A considerable advantage as with systems requiring a vapour barrier it is exactly that which is the most frequent source of errors occurring through incorrect installation that often leads to mould and dampness in the interior.

The insulation panel THERMOLUT-DP180 is especially designed around these interior insulation requirements. THERMOLUT-DP180 stands out due to high capillarity and can therefore conduct dampness from the inside to the outside. Alongside the capillarity, the property of moisture absorption is also particularly emphasised whilst concurrently maintaining the insulation properties. This property also provides a high amount of assurance in the restoration.

Therefore our insulation panel differs considerably from those on the market up to now as it is not hydrophobic and therefore possesses unrestricted capillarity.

Clay earth is also considered an exceptional heat store that is also climatically important and naturally especially important with financial advantages in times of rocketing energy costs.

In construction physics a very clear so called “phase shift” occurs which means nothing more than a markedly noticeable delayed heating up in the summer and cooling down in the winter. When compared with standard exterior insulation systems the THERMOLUT-System is cost-neutral, scaffolding with weather protection is not necessary and installation is not weather dependent.

The building materials wood and clay earth used in the THERMOLUT-System are respectable and very authentic through historical experience. The energy finances are balanced and the advantages of natural building materials are thoroughly comprehensible as the reasons for choice of the buyer and the client as well as sales and application reasons, which are always ecologically and economically justifiable for manufacturer, stockist and planner.

Contrary to many other modern “mixed building materials” with contents and production processes that are not reproducible this materialistic “step back” due to experience of an innovative building material manufacturer and scientifically reproducible knowledge in the current topic “continued construction” is an important step in the right direction.

THERMOLUT – assurance and efficiency in installation and result.
