Winkelstedt village church, Germany

The church in Winkelstedt was built in the year 1790. During DDR times there were a good as no restoration measures carried out on the property. The church could be used at this time but showed heavy damage to the foundations beams and supports. The result was misalignment of the wooden framed supports and infill (masonry work).

In 1996 the first restoration of the timber construction and replacement of the infills (brickwork) on the north side including the bell tower was undertaken in the course of the regeneration of Winkelstedt village.

With the help of the friends of Winkelstedt and the collection of financial donations the south and east sides i.e. the timber construction and infills were restored in 2007 in a further restoration phase. The reinstatement of the old render coats were restored internally by applying approx. 9 cm of THERMOLUT earth plaster in the infills and approx. 3 cm onto the timber framework using lathwork. The work was carried by DP BAU from Salzwedel.
